How To Request a Nexus Letter

At DMS, we follow a simple, easy-to-follow process to request a nexus letter. Learn more by watching this video, or by reading below.

Our Nexus letter Process

A doctor pages through a stack of papers.

Step 1. Record Review

Step 2. Conference Call

Step 2. Conference Call

To determine whether a link between your condition and your military services or a previous service-connected condition is medically reasonable, your Nexus Letter physician thoroughly reviews all documents you provide. If this record review does not support a connection, your nexus letter request will be canceled; you will be charged only for the time spent in reviewing your documents.

Step 2. Conference Call

Step 2. Conference Call

Step 2. Conference Call

After the record review is completed, you will participate in a 20-minute Zoom conference call with your Nexus Letter physician.  This call is your opportunity to personally explain the circumstances of your case, to ensure full understanding.

Step 3. Research

Step 4. The Professional Report

Step 4. The Professional Report

After reviewing your records and discussing your case with you, your Nexus Letter physician analyzes current medical literature, clinical studies, and relevant case law for information related to your condition.

Based on all of this objective information, your Nexus Letter physician defines and supports their independent medical opinion regarding your case and begins writing your VA nexus letter.

Step 4. The Professional Report

Step 4. The Professional Report

Step 4. The Professional Report

The formal VA medical opinion letter is based on facts gathered from review of records, relevant research studies, and case law. Medical records are summarized chronologically in a document to be included as an appendix to your VA nexus letter. The nexus letter's format fulfills the VA's requirements and includes your Nexus Letter physician's professional medical opinion, expressed as a degree of likelihood (e.g., "at least as likely as not").

PLEASE NOTE:

DMS Nexus Letter Services do not establish a physician-patient relationship.

Our physicians' independent medical opinions are limited to providing medical expertise regarding whether a Veteran’s disability or current medical condition is objectively linked to one or more events that occurred during their miliary service. The information provided in your nexus letter and/or during your Zoom meeting should not be used for diagnosing or treating a health problem.

If you are seeking personal medical advice, please consult a licensed physician.
